Nymphaea caerulea, also known as Egyptian lotus, Egyptian blue lotus or blue water lily, is an aquatic plant whose original habitat is along the Nile and other areas of East Africa, later spreading to Thailand and India.

More than 3,000 years ago, blue lotus was already cultivated on the banks of the Nile for its beauty and intoxicating effects. It was considered a sacred plant, and was closely linked to Egyptian deities such as Osiris, Nefertum and Ra.

The blue lotus opens with light and closes in darkness, which is why it is directly associated with the powers of the sun, linked to the Egyptian god Ra. The Egyptians macerated this plant in wine for ritual uses.

Its psychoactive effects make the blue lotus one of the candidates to be identified as the plant of the lotus eaters in Homer’s Odyssey.

Ingredients: Cocoa (Theobroma cacao), cocoa butter, combination of spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and chillies), blue lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) 0.5 g of extract per serving. Made with 50:1 extract (0.5g of 50:1 Blue Lotus extract per serving, equivalent to 25 grams of the plant)
